EVALUATIONS
At First Presbyterian Christian School, we evaluate our elementary school students on a 1,2,3,4 scale. This is known as Standards Based Grading. Students are assessed based on their movement to mastery of grade level standards. Please refer to our Report Card Handbook for more information on how this system works.
Teachers assess all students at the beginning of the year and then develop instruction to meet the individual needs of students. Students are assessed throughout the year on various skills appropriate to his/her age and aligned with the state standards using a variety of modalities. Teachers and parents meet twice a year to discuss a student's progress at a parent-teacher conference. However, if at any time a parent or teacher feels the need for a conference, one can be scheduled. Report cards are sent home and conferences are held in early December, late March, and at the conclusion of the school year.
Our preschoolers are also assessed 3 times per year. Their progress is charted and shared with parents at the fall and late winter conferences and sent home at the conclusion of the school year.
During the conference, your teacher will share with you about all of the ways your child is growing cognitively, socially, and academically. Examples of work that demonstrate the student’s learning and activities will be shared. As a parent, you will be able to share with the teacher how you feel your child’s learning is progressing and any concerns you may have. We believe that students thrive when classroom-home communication is strong!
